Kabaddi Eyes 2036 Olympics as IKF Chief Kasani Gnaneshwar Lays Out Plan
After an executive committee meeting in Hyderabad, the sport's world body said it wants kabaddi on the Olympic stage, plus a World Cup and a women's league.

The International Kabaddi Federation wants kabaddi in the 2036 Olympic Games. IKF president Kasani Gnaneshwar said so in Hyderabad on Sunday, after chairing the federation's Executive Committee meeting.
There is a nearer target too. Gnaneshwar said efforts are on to win kabaddi a place at the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which could serve as a stepping stone toward the bigger stage.
Why does the Olympic dream matter? In Gnaneshwar's words, inclusion would bring the sport wider international recognition and give players significant encouragement and opportunities. For athletes who now play in a handful of strongholds, that could mean more funding, visibility and career paths.
The federation is also planning a Kabaddi World Cup. Countries keen to host it have been invited to send in their proposals, so the venue is still open.
Women's kabaddi is part of the push. Pointing to the success of the men's Pro League, Gnaneshwar said the federation wants to create similar opportunities for women through dedicated leagues. A Women's Kabaddi Premier League is being planned for the near future, though no dates were shared.
The IKF also pointed to its growing reach. Gnaneshwar said 62 countries have come forward to play kabaddi and have taken IKF membership. A wide base of member nations is usually a key argument for any sport seeking Olympic entry.
For now, these are plans and ambitions, not confirmed inclusions. Read the original report at Deccan Chronicle.
