PM Modi's 54th PRAGATI Review Targets Rs 16,000 Crore Projects Across 31 States, UTs

From Ahmedabad's railway station to bulk drug parks and Ekta Malls, the Prime Minister pushed officials to clear bottlenecks and focus on results rather than spending.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 54th PRAGATI meeting at Seva Teerth on Tuesday, reviewing infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 16,000 crore across 31 States and Union Territories. Top Central and State officials joined through a video-linked interaction to untangle delays between agencies.

Railways drew early attention. While going over the redevelopment plan for Ahmedabad railway station, Modi asked officials to speed up station modernisation nationwide. His vision: major rail hubs that work as multimodal centres, connected directly to local metro systems and other city transit.

The Prime Minister also checked progress on Bulk Drug Parks in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. He stressed that India should make more active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and key raw materials at home, cutting dependence on outside suppliers for medicines.

For small businesses, the message was about PM Ekta Malls. Modi wanted them tied to tourism hubs and local business networks. Steady demand for regional products, he said, supports rural enterprise, from handicrafts to packaging, warehousing and logistics. Chief Secretaries were told to keep a close watch on timely completion.

On governance, he asked Chief Secretaries to hold monthly coordination meetings with District Magistrates to close gaps in scheme delivery. Public spending, he said, should be judged by outcomes, not by the size of the initial budget. He pointed to the Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks programmes, crediting joined-up governance, regular monitoring and local accountability for helping nearly 25 crore people exit multidimensional poverty.

He closed by asking Ministries and State governments to work in mission mode, anticipate delays before they happen and fix clear responsibility so projects stay on schedule. For commuters, drug buyers and rural artisans alike, the test will be whether these reviews turn into finished projects.
