India and the United Kingdom will begin tracking how businesses use tariff concessions under their Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), as both countries seek to identify implementation hurdles and improve access to the agreement's benefits.

The mechanism will take effect one year after the CETA came into force on 15 July 2026. It will track the frequency of preferential tariff claims and capture business feedback on implementation challenges. The arrangement forms part of the outcomes of the 16th meeting of the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), held in New Delhi on 12 October 2026, according to the joint statement issued after the meeting.

The arrangement will give both governments a basis to assess how businesses use the agreement and identify areas where companies require further support. The two sides also agreed to establish committees, working groups and government-to-government contact points to address implementation issues. The statement does not set a target for the number of businesses that should use the concessions or the volume of trade that the mechanism should generate.
