Brazil envoy says India trade to hit $20 billion soon, with minerals and AI in focus
At Brazil's National Day event in New Delhi, Ambassador Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nóbrega said business momentum and political trust are pushing the two economies closer.

Brazil's Ambassador to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nóbrega, said on Friday that trade between the two countries is expected to reach USD 20 billion soon. He was speaking in New Delhi at an event marking Brazil's National Day, and named critical minerals, defence, energy, pharmaceuticals and artificial intelligence as the areas driving the growth.
The timing matters. The two countries are heading toward the 80th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, and the envoy described the moment as a new phase. "Political vision and business dynamism are converging to take Brazil-India relations to a new level," he said.
Some numbers back that up. India is now Brazil's fifth-largest trading partner, he said. Indian companies have built up investments in Brazil worth USD 10 billion. Brazilian firms are expanding in India too, and aerospace major Embraer is a prominent new entrant. Da Nóbrega credited more than 150 business and technology missions over the past three years for the momentum.
For everyday readers, the most relevant threads are the ones tied to future supply chains. "Just recently, we agreed to connect our efforts on rare earths and critical minerals," the envoy said. Those materials matter for modern electronics and clean-energy technology. He also pointed to new partnerships in pharmaceutical research and a broad digital partnership, alongside cooperation in agriculture, healthcare and digital infrastructure.
On trade rules, he said negotiations to expand the trade agreement between India and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) have made concrete progress. He did not give a timeline in the remarks reported here.
Da Nóbrega also stressed trust. "In those uncertain years and in this uncertain world we are living in, trust is not just an asset; it is a strategic advantage," he said. He praised India's BRICS chairmanship for keeping members in dialogue on difficult global issues, and said Brazil will co-chair the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Global Biofuels Alliance with India after COP30.
There is a cultural note as well. Brazil plans to bring to India in 2027 its celebrations of the 100th birth anniversary of Antônio Carlos Jobim, the Bossa Nova pioneer known as Tom Jobim. The envoy also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2025 state visit to Brazil and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's visit to India earlier this year, saying both gave political backing to deeper ties.
