Align Technology Q3 Revenue Hits $1B as Aligner Sales Climb and Scanners Shift

Align Technology's clear aligner business grew steadily in the third quarter, while a move toward leasing and rentals pulled down scanner sales revenue.

Align Technology (NASDAQ:ALGN) reported third-quarter 2026 results on October 28, and the headline number is a quarter that cleared $1 billion in revenue. Total revenue reached $1,014.8 million, up 1.9% from a year earlier, or 2.4% in constant currency. Non-GAAP earnings of $2.80 per share beat analyst estimates by two cents.

The clear aligner business did most of the heavy lifting. Aligner revenue rose 4.2% to $839.3 million, and the company shipped 690,600 cases, up 6.6%. Doctor participation hit a company record of 90,900 submitters, and each doctor sent slightly more cases on average than last year.

The scanner side told a different story. Systems and services revenue fell 7.6% to $175.5 million. Align says that drop reflects a planned shift toward leasing, rentals, and certified pre-owned scanners instead of a slowdown in demand. Scanner placements actually grew by double digits, topping 157,000 worldwide. Revenue per case also slipped 2.3% to $1,215, though it rose 1.8% in constant currency, which the company linked to product and regional mix.

Growth was uneven around the globe. Asia-Pacific led all regions with 16% retail aligner shipment growth, powered by China, while Europe, the Middle East and Africa rose 8%. The Americas grew only 1.5%, but that was its first gain in North American orthodontist shipments in six quarters. Teen and children's shipments climbed 7.3% to roughly 275,000 units.

Investors seemed to shrug. The stock slipped 0.4% after hours to $153, following a 1.1% gain during regular trading. Management stayed cautious, pointing to continued pressure from weak consumer discretionary spending and dentists holding back on equipment purchases. For patients, that means more affordable ways to get a scanner in the office, and for shareholders, a quarter that solid but not spectacular.
